Tiny People

I think that it really clicked when I realized that it was possible for people like me, who didn’t know how to properly “design,” to express themselves through their own style and there were hundreds of ways to achieve this, it shouldn’t be limited. So I take the plunge and I experiment!

grande-spirito:

Matthew Simmonds, an art historian and architectural  carver based in Italy, has created a collection of exceptionally beautiful miniature spaces carved from . Having worked on a number of restoration projects in the  – from Westminster Abbey to Ely Cathedral - his skills have been transferred into work of a much smaller, if not more intricate, scale. Hewn from large stone blocks (some of marble), the level of intricacy Simmonds has achieved in the architectural detailing is almost incredible. Capitals, vaults and surfaces all distort and reflect light in a very beguiling way.

Here are some more pictures of these architectural stone carvings from earlier today, with bigger pics of the whole stone they reside in. I really love these, and I want on SO BAD. I will have to subsist on pictures, though, I guess.

Tiny Crimes
- Dina Belenko

Belenko’s work often shares a common style of giving insight into the tiny world of everyday objects, without the use of tiny people. Her series ‘Tiny Crimes’ is another fantastic example where she looks beyond the common first glance of mess, and creates action packed crimes scenes. A wonderful collaboration of digital photography and innocent imagination.

bon-appeteats:

Just thought I’d post a little sampling of the earrings I’ll have for sale at SuperCon this weekend. I haven’t posted much miniature food lately so I hope this makes up for it. :)

The rune in the Hearthstone earrings glows in the dark.

I’ll be at booth 331 this weekend. Hope to see some of you there!

The Exquisite ’ Inner Space ’ Architecture of Matthew Simmonds

Hi, my name is Julien Martin, i was born in 1984 in Saint-Tropez, France. I left home when i was 16, travelled for 4 years the country with an italian circus and finally reached Paris in 2004. I got lucky and was accepted at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris because of my “exceptional” talent. Nevertheless i dropped out two years later, missing the feeling of being on the road. I travelled the south of Europe, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Now i am back to Paris and try to live of my art.

” Simmonds makes a play of architecture and ornamentation on a small scale, but the spaces created give the same feeling as in the buildings themselves; a place to rest, a place to travel with the eye and maybe find a moment of tranquillity. The marble is opened up, and inside is a space within a building that only exists in the viewer’s mind. What you sense is the significance of space.” ( Artodyssey )
